Writers who are new to freelance content writing might face many problems in the beginning. This can be really frustrating and discouraging if you are not prepared for it. Here are three Cs of content writing that you must know before jumping into it.

Knowing that you have the gift of writing can be overwhelming. This might put you among the talented and creative minority of the world. Also, it opens for you hundreds of career opportunities. However, it is only through trial by the fire that you are able to polish your skills and prove your worth. In its very true sense, the trial begins when you decide to monetize your talent as a freelance content writer.

Creativity – The very truth about content writing is that it is anything but creative. So, the very first thing you need to do is to kill that ‘writer’s conscience’ if you have any. Content writing is not for the sake of writing or language or anything that makes it highly respectable; it is majorly for marketing and product promotion. Yet, if you have the talent to mold anything into a creative piece of writing, that’s a plus for sure.

Compensation- So you are ready to make some bucks, eh! There are definitely too many stories about freelance writers leaving their day jobs and enjoying a prosperous life with the money they get from writing. Sounds fascinating but try your luck and you’ll only get frustrated. Unless you have a solid profile, no one would be willing to pay your more than a dollar per article, or may be two. Compensations are way too low for starters. So, there surely is success but it’s a long and very low-paid path.

Client – Well, there are several different types of client which I do intend to discuss later someday, but generally they are all scary. First of all they think of you not as a writer with a small sensitive heart but as a mirror on the wall. You must know everything about everything and you should learn to lie about your client being the best in whatever that is they do. Secondly, don’t expect to get any appreciation for all the effort. Even for an article worth publishing in a magazine, all you get is ‘okay, its fine.’

So, if you think you are strong and determined enough to make through the three Cs of content writing, there is definitely a career waiting for you.

This is my another blog of my HOW TO series for facebook graph api with php.
In facebook graph api, you can get any information by the help of user id, its access token and particular permission…
Today lets take a look that how we can play with the facebook api to get information related to a fan page…
For fan page, first of all we need manage page permission from user. Then second noticable this is that fan page has its own ID and ACCESS TOKEN, so if we want to do something with fan page remotely like getting or posting anything to fan page then we surely need its ID, its ACCESS TOKEN and manage page permission from user…
Today I will make you understand that how we can get page id and its access token from facebook with facebook graph api php..
Lets suppose that we are using facebook graph api php sdk..
Below is the function that make facebook object of current user and call facebook and gets all the pages, ids and its access token, whom user is admin…

function get_pages_token()
{
	$fb = new Facebook(array(
        'appId'  => app_id,
        'secret' => app_secret,
        'cookie' => true, // enable optional cookie support
));
	$fan_pages = array();
	$temp_pages = $fb->api('/'.$fb->user.'/accounts','GET',array('access_token'=>$fb->session_key));
	if(count($temp_pages['data']) > 0)
	{
		foreach($temp_pages['data'] as $page)
		{
			if($page["category"] != "Application")
				$fan_pages[$page['id']] = $page['access_token'];
		}
	}

	return $fan_pages;
}

This function will return an array with ID as key and access token as value for all the fan pages whom user is admin.

Hope this will help
Enjoy

In my previous blog I have told you that how to get the count for a fanpage. You can check it here.
Now today I will tell you how to get the friends of a friend using graph api..
I assume that you know the authentication process and all the basic

I assume that you are using the facebook official php sdk. That you can download from GITHUB.

So here is the function by which you can get the count or total friends for a particular user.

function fb_get_friendcount($user_id, $access_token, $count=false)
{
	$fb = new Facebook(array(
        'appId'  => app_id,
        'secret' => app_secret,
        'cookie' => true, // enable optional cookie support
));
	$result = $fb->api("/".$user_id."/friends",array("access_token"=>$access_token));
	if($count == true)
		return count($result["data"]);
	else
		return $result["data"];
}

Here we will pass the count parameter FALSE if we need only the count of friends and if we need a complete array we do not need to pass the third parameter

Hope this will help . Feel free to ask any question

Press release writer’s worst nightmare becomes a reality when clients themselves have no idea about what news they want to propagate; they just want a press release.

Trust me, such nightmares happen quite often. As a ghostwriter, I have plenty of horror stories to share. Most of the details I receive from my clients read;

‘I have a website watevertheurl.com for which I need a newsworthy press release. I don’t have any idea or news right now. ’

What a clueless client! But beware! Sometimes the details are in a language, you just can’t interpret, so this one is still among my not-so-scary ones.

As a matter of fact, such projects used to be quite frustrating for me in the beginning, but with time I have learned exactly how to handle them, not like a press release writer, but like a news reporter. As I am here to share my experience with you, here is a thing you must first understand about press releases.

‘While bad Press release is one which reads like a sales pitch, one which reads like an article is the worst.’

Too much information on various aspects of a niche will make your release sound like an article. Always remember that a press release should focus more on the news rather than the specific product, service or company the release is about. That doesn’t mean you should completely totally overlook them either.

So, first of all you need to find the news and craft out a headline. Here are a few tricks to do that.

See if the website is newly launched. If it is then ‘BAAM’… Problem Solved! Tell them some thoughtful and considerate person has launched a new website to solve their problems regarding ‘whatever the website does’ or something related to that.

Check out the website to see what is so unique that they are offering and their competitors are not. The websites are usually bragging about loads of ‘unique’ services and offers which set them apart. Make a headline out of such unique offers and services, and you are good to go.

Find out if your client is catering to a particular customer base or area. Check for some stats about needs or problems faced by that customer base related to whatever your client’s niche is. Your headline can work as a ‘good news’ heralding the end of customer’s particular problems.

Think about the benefits of your clients business on a broader level, for instance, economy, environment, technology or social ties. I guess nothing else can make a better news than a small business focusing on bigger benefits.

Now remember one thing, news is good enough to get you started with the headline and the first paragraph. You can later start to add details about features and facts about the product or service of your client, but even that has to relate to the news somehow. You can find details, regarding how you can achieve that, in my blog which describes the difference between article and a press release.

They say freelance writing will earn you enough money that you can simply bid farewell to your day job and say hello to early retirement. If that’s really true for someone – That someone should rather try that luck somewhere in Vegas.

Here’s a little reality check, if article writing is your niche then you’d be terribly disappointed to open your eyes to a bitter truth. No one would be willing to pay more than a dollar for a ‘well-written’ article around 500 words long. So where’s the money in ghostwriting- It’s in writing a Press Release.

One Press of around four hundred words can earn you around 20 to 30 times more compensation than an article of same length. However, many freelance writers refrain from taking PR projects just because they are not sure if they are good enough for it.

How Press Release Writing is Different

To be honest, Press release writing requires almost the same level of writing skills as article or blog writing. The difference is only in the format, tone and a few tactics that can make it read like news. So, out of what I learned through my years of experience, here is a little help to let you know how press release writing differs from article writing:
1. First of all, articles usually require catchy headings but for PR, you need a newsworthy headline. Something that clearly defines what the news is about. One simple tip to write a newsworthy headline is to use verbs such ‘launches’, ‘releases’, ‘announces’ or even ‘invites’ depending on the news you are propagating through the release. To make the headline catchy and exciting use adjectives such as ‘amazing’, ‘unique’, ‘innovative’, etc.
2. Some press releases require a very serious and formal headline. You can’t afford to ward you readers away just for the sake of formal and no-nonsense tone, now can you? In such cases, we use subtitles. Subtitles are usually fun and exciting to read. Try flaunting all your creativity in that one line.
3. Then comes the body! We usually start articles with generalized facts regarding whatever that is we are writing about. In case of blogs, we talk about personal experiences. In press release writing, neither is acceptable. PR needs to be current and up-to-date, and generalization doesn’t help here. The best solution is to start with current stats rather than general facts.
4. Yes, you can’t talk about your personal experiences like you do in blogs. That will make it sound pitchy. People believe in news that comes from a neutral source and not from the fans or the business itself. So, for credibility sake, always keep a neutral and somewhat critical (positively) tone. Instead of writing ‘how great it is’, make predictions and speculations about how beneficial and helpful ‘it can be’.
5. The greatest guide to ghostwriting, Rule#1 says, “Make it pitchy”- And that is exactly how you do it!
Internet writing, be it an article or a press release, it’s all about marketing, so there has to be a sales pitch somewhere. But remember what we said about being neutral? So, the solution is to simply put the pitch in the quotes. Just tell them that the spokesperson said so, and you’ll stay clean.
6. Finally, you end a press release not with a conclusion but an introduction. Write a short description of the company or the concerned person, add contact details and end it with three # signs. Yes, that’s mandatory for submitting your press releases online.

Facebook fan pages are not a new word and almost everybody on this e-world know what is facebook and what are fanpages. A really good way to promote things. And for developers facebook introduce its graph api, a replacement of its rest api. And almost every techy person has read about this ( I hope ).

Well what if anybody needs to get the total number of fans of any page via graph api???
So, here is a simple function to get this..
I assume that you are using the facebook official php sdk. That you can download from GITHUB.

The only thing that you need is the ID of that page for which you want to get the count of fans

function fb_get_fancount($page_id)
{
	$fb = new Facebook(array(
        'appId'  => app_id,
        'secret' => app_secret,
        'cookie' => true, // enable optional cookie support
));
	$result = $fb->api(array(
    'method' => 'fql.query',
    'query' => 'select fan_count from page where page_id = '.$page_id
));
	$fb_fans = $result[0]['fan_count'];
	return $fb_fans;
}

Thats it.

Hope this will help

As everybody know that the magic of facebook is on the peak. On every third website you will see atleast one facebook widget. Facebook like, facebook comment etc. That help you share the content to your network.
Recently google introduce a GOOGLE PLUS ONE / GOOGLE PLUS 1 button.
First of all lets discuss how we can add this button to any website.
Adding google plus one button is as easy as writing your name.
Just include the javascript file to your code.

<script type="text/javascript" src="https://apis.google.com/js/plusone.js"></script>

And use the tag

<g:plusone> </g:plusone>

wherever you want to show it.
That’s it.
Google announce that this button will affect the search result so it means that this could be a good SEO technique to use this button on website.

But personally I feel that this google plus one button will be a fail project like google buzz because why any user will click on this plus one button??

As everybody know that facebook old rest api is going to be obsolete. Facebook launches its new api called GRAPH API. And doing changes day by day. Previously there was no method to upload video on facebook via graph api but in april 2011 facebook added the ability to upload video via graph api.

The only bad thing of facebook is its documentation. Here is a sample that how you can upload a video via graph api.
First of all you need to get user_videos permission from user otherwise you won’t be able to upload video.

Now here is the sample code from facebook documentation that how you can upload video to facebook via graph api.

First of all note that instead of

https://graph.facebook.com

Your call will be

https://graph-video.facebook.com/{user}/videos

(now this user can be any user id,page id or group id)

I assume that you know how to get the access token

Lets say our access token is

<?php $access_token=”xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx”; ?>

Two additional parameters can be sent with the video.
1)	Title
2)	Description

Lets say our title and description are

<?php
$title =  “Test Title”;
$description = “Test Description”;
?>

Now by using the above data we can make our final call url, which will be

<?php
$post_url = “https://graph-video.facebook.com/{user}/videos?access_token=”
                   .$access_token.”&amp;title=”.$title.”&amp;description=”.$description;
?>

Now you can post a video by using this URL.

e.g

<?php
echo '<form action=" '.$post_url.' " enctype="multipart/form-data" method="POST">';
echo 'Please choose a file:';
echo '<input name="file" type="file" />';
echo '<input type="submit" value="Upload" />';
echo ' </form>';
?>

I hope that this will help..
